Court Reporting
-- A Profession; not just another job.
The system we
teach is Voice Writing. The goal of the school is to assist registered
students both
online and offline to learn to become Certified Court Reporters.
WHAT REPORTERS DO:
Court reporters make verbatim notes of whatever is requested, transcribe
those notes into booklet form, and provide copies of the transcript to
interested parties.
THE SYSTEM AND SOMETHING ABOUT IT:
The Stenomask is a device into which a reporter speaks, repeating behind all
speakers, identifying the speakers in the process, while making a recording of
the reporter's voice. The Stenomask is a silencer. It fits snugly against the
reporter's face and when used by a properly trained reporter, so effectively
silences the reporter's voice that even those who stand only inches away cannot
hear a sound. Then the proceeding is either transcribed in the traditional
manner or, if a voice recognition computer has been used, in a more
technologically advanced manner.
Speech recognition, which through a computer takes the spoken word and
converts it to text as the Voice Writer reports, is now technologically possible
and being used by Voice Writers. This is a great enhancement to the
transcription
process and much in demand by attorneys and courts.
THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO MAKES A GOOD REPORTER:
Individuals who are self-motivated and self-disciplined and who do well when
they are not supervised. Good language skills are important.
THE DEMAND FOR COURT REPORTERS:
The demand exceeds the supply. There is a shortage of reporters nationwide.
WHAT REPORTERS EARN:
The need for reporters is extensive. At current rates, depending on the area of
the country, Many Professional Reporters earn in ranges from $40,000 per
year
to $90,000 per year. Remember! It's just "how much you want to
work" that
affects your income.
